Factory of Ideas: inside Israeli innovation

The ‘Factory of Ideas’ name

“Israel is like a big factory of ideas.”

That’s how Kobi Marenko, founder and chief executive of Logia, a privately-held mobile content company, describes the country’s propensity for innovation.

It’s a simple description, and certainly not the most profound comment Kobi made during our talk last month. But there is also a lot summed up in those words.

That’s why I’ve borrowed Kobi’s description in naming this blog.

Invest in Israel

Investing in Israeli innovation? Then this blog is for you.

I am a business journalist (writing for the Financial Times) with a long-standing interest in Israel’s high tech entrepreneurs and the innovation system that has grown around them.

Most of the posts on this blog will be based on my conversations with Israel’s leading entrepreneurs and VCs, discussing why Israel has more than its fair share of innovation and what lies ahead for the high tech industry. New companies and technologies will have their space too.

Some of this content will appear in the Financial Times, such as a series of articles appearing this week. But space on a page is always limited and no 800-word article can do justice to an hour spent talking with a brilliant business mind. So read here for more insight.

This blog also aims to fill a gap in news coverage of Israeli high tech entrepreneurship. The US papers cover Israeli business more than does the FT, but no English-language newspaper dedicates the space that Israel’s innovators deserve. That said, expect commentary, not breaking news, here.

Lastly, this blog will stay focused on Israeli innovation. If I have other things to say, I will do so elsewhere. You can trust me to stay on topic.

I hope you will join me in this ongoing conversation at Factory of Ideas.
